On 05th June 2021, the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency, UNDP Montenegro Country Office, Institute of Marine Biology, Maritime Safety Department,Eko fond - Fund for environment protection,Public Coastal Management Agency and Regional Diving Center organized a waste removal event to clean the shores, sea surface and sea floor in the Bay of Boka Kotorska (the Bay of Risan). This event was organized to markthe World Environment Day, and it was also a part of the celebratory programme for the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the ecological state of Montenegro.

Organizers addressed the attendees and, after discussing the actual ecological problems and waste issues in our Bay, they thanked the numerous participants and volunteers from the public sectors. We are proud to announce that our company, Briv Construction Ltd from Kotor, contributed to the event providing personnel and equipment to remove sea floor waste, in coordination with divers and supported by the Maritime Safety Department of Montenegro.

The waste was collected between Kostanjica and Turskirt, and from Strp towards Lipci. These are the areas where the sea floor is heavily contaminated with solid litter, which adversely impacts marine ecosystem and harms the sea floor life.

In addition to a sea acquatorium, there is a plan to clean beaches in the Risan bay area. This operation aims to stress the gravity of the sea waste issue and its negative impact on sea water quality as well as to increase citizens’ ecological awareness.
